Password-protect a PDF

Upload your PDF, choose a password and download it encrypted: only people who know it will be able to open it.

Your file stays on your device: it's never uploaded to any server

Free up to 10 MB per file — go Pro for no limit.

Drag your PDF here or click to choose it

Use letters (no ñ or accents), numbers and common symbols — avoid "ñ", accents or emojis, which don't work well in the password yet.

Your PDF is now protected. Keep the password safe: if you lose it, nobody — not even us — can recover the file.

How to password-protect a PDF

Upload your PDF, type the password twice to confirm it and click "Protect and download PDF". From that moment on, anyone who opens the file (in any program or browser) will have to type that password to view it. Everything happens in your own browser: the file and the password are never uploaded to any server. Keep in mind that we don't store and can't recover your password — if you forget it, the document is locked forever.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to any server?

No. The whole process happens in your own browser, so your files never leave your device: they're not uploaded, not stored, and nobody sees them.

Is it free? Are there any limits?

Yes, it's free, with no watermarks and no sign-up. The free plan supports files up to 10 MB (and up to 5 at a time in the tools that combine several PDFs); MásPDF Pro removes those limits.

Do I need to install anything or create an account?

No. It works right in your browser, on desktop or mobile. You can also install it as an app and use it offline.

How is the PDF protected?

The PDF is encrypted with the password you choose: only someone who knows it can open it.
